Billie Jean mixes conventions of the music videos and film. The music video uses intertextual references to assist the narrative. These references include links to the movie ‘singin’ the rain’. Both Gene Kelly and MJ sing about a woman, but the tone of both songs is drastically different. Through cinematography, the Singin in the rain video portrays the happy, joyful emotion Gene Kelly expresses.
