'Genre is instances of repetition and difference'
The genre is crime drama and police procedural. In crime drama there is always a bad guy and a good guy, and the protagonist always wins. this repeats thought out the series but they are always one step behind the criminal therefore has not caught him yet
Dinah is the main character but not the head of the squad, she's not even sarge, shes a detective constable which you wouldn't expect from the main character. she was in place for the sergeant role but she walked away form the death of the suspect.

5 Stages Of Equilibrium 
1.) Equilibrium... balance
2.) Disruption of equilibrium
3.) Recognition of the disruption
4.) Attempt to repair the disruption
5.) Return to the equilibrium
Todorov’s theory regarding the 5 stages of equilibrium applies to the clip. the first stage is the equilibrium, the balance. In the clip this can be seen as her night off. The second stage is the distribution. The show shows this as her seeing the wanted person. Stage 3 is about the recognition of the problem, is would be were she starts to chase him. The forth stages is where that try and fix the problem. Although her thoughts were to catch the guy, he gets run over. And finally stage 5, the return. This is when she goes back to work where she pretends she didn’t know he died and acts like nothing happened. 
another attempt to repair the disruption is when she adopts the Cathy after her parents don't fly home but go in the opposite direction before they know she's alive.

'Binary Opposition drives a narrative forward'

in the case of no offence the unsub is the evil and the police is the good. The antagonist is the causes the police to try and save the 'downs' girls and his drives the narrative forward. 
Not only this they have binary opposition with in the work place between the 3 main female characters. dinah is the main character but she also the rebel, and doesnt really follows the rules. Viv and Joy are the secondary main characters. Viv is more of the headstrong, powerful character whereas Joy is the timid, kind and innocent character. Joy is the typical female detective and Viv is the typical male detective, Dinah is strong yet impulsive member of the team
